A claim can be lodged in respect of any cause of action covered in the policy and which arises 3 months after payment of your first instalment,

except in the case of a family matter such as divorce or a maintenance-related matter, in which event a claim can be lodged in respect of a cause of action that arises 6 months after payment of your first instalment.

You may insist on your own lawyer, but in the event that your chosen lawyer charges more than what the insurer pays, you will be responsible for paying the difference.
